R. Kelly Requests His Fans and the Black Community to Stream His Songs This Month to Pay For Michael Jackson’s Lawyer
Currently behind bars awaiting trial, R. Kelly is looking to get his legal defense team revamped. According to sources close to the disgraced singer, he does not have much faith in his current lawyer, Steve Greenberg, and is wanting to hire the lawyer who helped Michael Jackson beat child molestation charges in 2005. The lawyer who led Jackson’s winning defense team is named Thomas Mesereau, and he is ready to take on the challenge. Mesereau charges a six figure retainer fee, in the ballpark of $150,000. It’s been reported that Kelly is a few dollars shy of being dead broke and he’s got a request for his fans:
“I want to thank all my fans who have been supporting me since day one. The devil has been working against me and it’s time to put a stop to all lies and accusations now. At this time, I ask that all my fans and the black community to continue to support me by streaming my songs and buying my records this month so I can pay for Michael Jackson’s lawyer. I need y’all to do this more than ever. I’m innocent, I’m not the monster they say I am. Please help me out”
Says Kelly, who has an extensive catalog across multiple streaming services. Just earlier this year, ex-fans continued a movement, “Mute R. Kelly”, in an attempt to stop the support of the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer. Begging fans to stream music to help pay for an attorney is Kelly’s last alternative before he creates a GoFundMe account.
